Last night is eradicated
by oncoming morning,
a passage of time
softens the roar of the head,
a light recognized between
flickering eyelids
instigates new levels
of energy and hope,
shadows dissipate,
there are no more blank walls,
pain transforms itself
into a face that could even
pass muster in a mirror,
yawns arrive on cue,
clear thoughts manipulate
my facial muscles into a smile,
curious memories
report to the front of my brain,
names and moments,
now and forever more,
or, at least, until the next time.
